Hint:
To survive in the changing environment animals and plants show different kinds of adaptation. These adaptations help them to remain alive in the changing temperature and climatic conditions. Also provide protection from predator.
- Animals show different kinds of adaptations to survive. These can be a physiological, structural or behavioural adaptations.
- Mimicry: Mimicry is a structural adaptation. An animal pretends to appear like any other animal or plant. So that it can be avoided by the enemy or prey. For example, a chameleon changes its colour to not get identified by the prey.
- Hibernation: It is a type of behavioural adaptation. Some animals do not keep themselves active during winter season. To conserve their energy they slower their metabolic rate and heart rate. For example, snakes show hibernation and are not active in winter.
- Pelican's large pouch-like beak is also a type of behavioural adaptation.
- Camouflage: Animals in their external appearance resemble the objects or colour of their environment. For example, a leaf butterfly looks like a dry leaf. It helps them to blend with the environment.
