Leave no stone _______________.

  1. Back
  2. Unturned
  3. Clean

hintHint:

An idiom is an expression containing a group of words that has a figurative meaning and whose meaning is not deducible from those of the individual words. These expressions are peculiar to a language and the larger meaning can be understood only by native speakers.

The correct answer is: Unturned

The meaning of the idiom 'leave no stone unturned' means to try every possible course of action in order to achieve something. It is believed that the idiom has its roots in an ancient Greek legend. The legend is of a Greek commander, Mardonius who buried his treasure near his tent after he was defeated in a battle. When Polycrates came to know about this, he bought that entire land. However, when he was not successful in finding the treasure, he took the help of the Oracle of Delphi who replied 'Leave no stone unturned.' This was a hint to search the ground thoroughly, even under the stones.
