Question

A cone has a volume of 475.16 in3. If the height of the cone is 15 inches, then find the diameter of the cone.

  1. 5.5
  2. 8.2
  3. 10.3
  4. 11

hintHint:

The volume of a cone is given by 1 third cross times straight pi cross times left parenthesis base space radius right parenthesis squared cross times height

The correct answer is: 11

    Let the radius of the cone be r inches.
    Volume of cone = fraction numerator 1 over denominator 3 end fraction cross times pi cross times r to the power of 2 end exponent cross times h
    475.16 = fraction numerator 1 over denominator 3 end fraction cross times 3.141592 cross times r to the power of 2 end exponent cross times 15
    r2 = 30.25
    r = 5.5 inches
    Diameter = radius × 2
    = 5.5 × 2
    = 11
