Question
A pack of dog food that weighs 5 kg cost $20. A smaller pack of dog food that is 500 g costs $2.50. Identify the better value.
- 500g
- 5kg
- Both pack same values
- Can’t define
The correct answer is: 5kg
20 ÷ 5 = 4
The bigger pack costs $4 per kg. 2.5 × 2 = 5
The smaller pack costs $5 per kg.
The 5-kg pack is better value.
Number of 500 gram packs required to have the equivalent weight of 5KG is equal to 5KG/500 g = 10 packs. Cost of 10 500 gram packs of dog food = 10 x $2.5 = $ 25. It is given that the cost of 1 5 pack is equal to $20. Hence from the data, we can infer that the larger pack ,i.e 5 kg offers better value.
