Question

Fill in the blank: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, ____, 16, 18 ,20

  1. 13
  2. 14
  3. 15
  4. 17

hintHint:

We are given a number sequence. One of the term is missing from the sequence. We are asked to find the missing term from the sequence. We will find the rule used to write the sequence. Using the rule, we can find the required value.

The correct answer is: 14

    The given sequence is 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, __, 16, 18, 20
If we see carefully, the terms in the above sequence are multiples of 12.
A multiple is a product of given number with some number.
    2 × 1 = 2
    2 × 2 = 4
And the end term is 20.
    2 × 10 = 20
So, the sequence is of first 10 multiples of 2.
The first term is by multiplying 2 by 1, second term is multiplying 2 by 2. The seventh term is missing. So, we will have to multiply 2 by 7
    2 × 7 = 14
Therefore, the missing term is 7.

We have to be careful about the order of the multiples.
