Question
Find the area of the following figure?
64 sq cm
16 sq cm
28 sq cm
100 sq cm
Hint:
Divide the figure into rectangles and the area of the rectangle formula.
The correct answer is: 28 sq cm
At first divide the figure into separate rectangles. ABGF is the one rectangle and CDEG is another rectangle. We need to calculate the area of these rectabgles. At first, we will calculate the area of rectangle ABGF. Length = 8 cm Breadth = 2 cm Area of rectangle ABGF = 8 × 2 = 16 sq. cm Now, we will calculate the area of rectangle CDEG Length = 2 cm Breadth = 8 - 2 = 6 cm Area of rectangle CDEG = 6 × 2 = 12 sq. cm The total area of the figure is the sum of the area of rectangle ABGF and rectangle CDEG. Total area = area of rectangle ABGF + area of rectangle CDEG Total area = 16 + 12 Total area = 28 sq. cm
