Question

Find the area of the following figure

  1. 182 sq ft
  2. 60 sq ft
  3. 242 sq ft
  4. 100 sq ft

hintHint:

Divide the figure into two rectangle and calculate the area of rectangle.

The correct answer is: 242 sq ft

    Let's divide the figure into two different shapes.
    Suppose left side is a rectangle A and right side is a rectangle B.
    At first we will calculate the area of recatngle A.
    Length = 13 ft
    Breadth = 14 ft
    Area of a rectangle A = 13 × 14 =182 sq. ft
    now we will calculate the area of rectangle B.
    Length = 25 - 13 = 12 ft
    Breadth = 5 ft
    Area of rectangle B= 12 × 5 = 60 sq. ft
    Total area of a figure is the sum of the areas of rectangle A and rectangle B.
    Total area of a figure = area of rectangle A + area of rectangle B
    Total area = 60 + 182
    Total area = 242 square feet
    So the total area of figure is 242 square feet
