Question
Find the area of the following figure.
9 sq. in
13 sq. in
4 sq. in
15 sq. in
Hint:
Divide the figure into separate squares and use the formula of the area of a square.
The correct answer is: 13 sq. in
Let's divide the figure into two different shapes. Suppose the left side is a square P and right side is a square Q. At first we will calculate the area of recatngle P. Length = 3 in Breadth = 3 in Area of a square = 3 × 3 = 9 sq. in now we will calculate the area of square Q. Length = 5 - 3 = 2 in Breadth = 3 - 1 = 2 in Area of a square = 2 × 2 = 4 sq. in Total area of a figure is the sum of the areas of square P and square Q. Total area of a figure = area of square P+ area of square Q Total area = 9 + 4 = 13 sq. in So the total area of figure is 13 sq. in.
