The above given figure is an example of irregular shapes.
Thus, we divide the above shape into a rectangle of sides 2unit $cross times$ 1unit , rectangle of side 4unit $cross times$ 2unit and another rectangle of side 6unit $cross times space$ 2unit
Thus, total area = (2 $cross times$ 1) + ( 4 $cross times$ 2) + ( 6 $cross times$ 2)= 2 + 8 + 12 =22 square units
