Question

Given f(x) = 2x2 + 1 and g(x) = 3x - 5 , find (f x f) (-2) and (g x g) (x)

  1. – 163 and 9x - 20
  2. 163 and 9x + 20
  3. 163 and 9x - 20
  4. – 163 and 9x + 20

hintHint:

(f x f) (-2) = f(f(-2))
(g x g) (x) = g(g(x)) = g(3x - 5 )

The correct answer is: 163 and 9x - 20

    Given f(x) = 2x2 + 1 and g(x) = 3x - 5
    f(-2) = 2 × (-2)2 + 1 = 2 × 4 + 1 = 9
    (f x f) (-2) = f(f(-2)) = f(9) = 2 × 92 + 1 = 163
    (g x g) (x) = g(g(x)) = g(3x - 5 ) = 3(3x - 5) - 5 = 9x - 15 - 5 = 9x - 20
