Question
Given y-6 = -2 (x+5), Identify the point used to write this equation.
- (-5,6)
- (-5,1)
- (-10,1)
- (6,6)
Hint:
Given the equation in point slope form
y - y1 = m( x - x1 ) , the point used will be ( x1 , y1 ) .
The correct answer is: (-5,6)
Given equation y - 6 = -2(x + 5).
Step 1 : in point slope form y - y1 = m( x - x1 ) ,
the point used will be ( x1 , y1 ) .
rewriting y - 6 = -2(x -(-5)).
Step 2 : ON comparing
x1 = -5 and y1 = 6
So , Point is (-5,6).
the number which appears after x and y will be the x and y coordinate used to write the equation .
