Question

If Mark says, “three time a number is added to 5 to get half the value of six times of the number added to ten”, then the number can be

  1. 2
  2. No solution to the equation formed
  3. Infinitely many solutions to the equation formed
  4. 4

hintHint:

An equation contains constants, variables and an equal sign. It has two sides called LHS and RHS. A linear equation in one variable is an equation with only one variable and the highest power of the variable should be one. Here, we have to find the unknown number which can be done by operating both sides with the same number so that the equation will be balanced.

The correct answer is: Infinitely many solutions to the equation formed

In the question it is given that three time a number is added to 5 to get half the value of six times of the number added to ten.
Here, we have to find the unknown number.
Step 1: Convert the word problem into numerical equation.
3x+5= 1 half(6x+5)
Step 2: Solve the bracket in RHS side.
3x+5= 3x+5         .............(1)
Since, the variable and constant terms in eq. 1 are same on both sides so, it has infinitely many solutions.
therefore, the correct option is c,i.e., infinitely many solutions of the equation formed.

The linear equations with one variable are an equation which has only one variable and the highest power of the variable should be one. The linear equations in one variable having infinitely many solutions if it has same variable and constant terms on both the sides of the equation. On solving the equation, they will get cancelled and will give 0=0 as result.
