Question

Is the given function increasing, decreasing or constant?

  1. Increasing
  2. Decreasing
  3. Constant
  4. Cannot say

hintHint:

The increasing interval  in graph where line goes on upward on graph from left to right and slope of line is positive . The decreasing interval in graph where line goes towards downward on graph from left to right and slope is negative. The constant interval when the line on graph is moving in horizontal on graph from left to right and slope of the line is zero.

The correct answer is: Decreasing

Here the function is given and we need to find out the given function is increasing, decreasing or constant.
Firstly, we need to find out slope of the given function . If the slope is negative then function is decreasing , if slope is positive then the function is increasing or if slope is zero then the function is constant.
    graph
We draw a slope at point p ,
And for finding the slope we need to find the value of tanƟ from x-axis.
    And here,
The value of tanƟ is negative because of tanƟ is in second quadrant and its always negative.
Then the slope m is also negative ,
Therefore, The given function having negative slope then the function is decreasing.
The correct answer is decreasing (option (c)).

We can also find out the function is decreasing by looking at its line or curve or if the function is given the we must find first derivative if it was.

How many increasing/decreasing intervals are there in this graph?

It very easy to find the increasing and decreasing interval in graph you just have to focus on the graph where its going upward or downward or you can also find increasing and decreasing by finding the slope of the line. If the slope is positive then line is increasing otherwise slope is negative then line is decreasing.
