Katies ordered a wedding cake with a volume of 1200 in 3. She knows that the amount of cake each guest will get is inversely proportional to the number of people she invites. Write an equation to model this situation.

y = $\frac{1}{x}$
y = $\frac{1200}{x}$
y = $\frac{400}{x}$
y = 600x

hint Hint:

Given the amount of cake each guest will get is y and the number of people she invites is x.
So ,the equation will be in type. y = $straight k over straight x$ ,

The correct answer is: y = $1200 over straight x$

Let’s say the amount of cake each guest will get is y and the number of people she invites is x.
So, y = $straight k over straight x$ , k is the constant of variation and x is not equal to 0.
Whole volume of cake = (volume of cake each guest will get) × (no of people invited)
1200 = y × x
Equation: y = $1200 over x$
