Question

Line segment AB represents 50%, Find the length of a line segment which is 100% (whereas AB = 5cm)

  1. 5cm
  2. 10cm
  3. 15cm
  4. 20cm

hintHint:

50% is fractionally represented as 1 half which is half of whole i.e. 100 space cross times 1 half . Thus to find the whole multiply by 2.

The correct answer is: 10cm

Line segment AB represents 50% and length of AB = 5cm
    This means, 5cm = 50%
    Multiply both sides by 2
    = (5 cross times 2)cm = (50 cross times 2 )%
    = 10 cm = 100%
Thus, the length of line segment which is 100% is 10cm

    Alternatively,
    By cross multiplication
    50% = 5cm
    100% = fraction numerator 5 cross times 100 over denominator 50 end fraction space equals space 10 c m
