From the figure we can see that we can divide the figure into two subfigure along the dotted line and both the subfigures in this question are rectangle. The total area of the figure will be equal to the sum of the areas of the two rectangles.

The correct answer is: 5 sq.cm

The formula of the area of the rectangle is $L cross times B$ ,where L is the length/base of the rectangle and B is the breadth/width of the rectangle. We will first calculate the area of one rectangle after that the another rectangle and then will add both the areas to get the final answer.
Area of Rectangle 1
Step1: Given length = $2 space c m$ and width =. $1 space c m$ Now we have to put it in the formula of the area of the rectangle to get the area.
Area = $L cross times B$
Step2: Now we will calculate the area of the rectangle.
Area = $2 cross times 1$

Step3: Now we will calculate the area of other rectangle
Area = $L cross times B$
Step4: Given the length $3 space c m$ and width = $1 space c m$ of the rectangle. Now we will put the values of length and width in the above formula to calculate the area.
Area = $3 cross times 1$
Area = $3 space c m squared$
Step4: Now we will add the area of both the rectangles to get the final answer.
Total Area = $3 plus 2$
Total Area = $5 space c m squared$
