Question

The diameter of a coin is 25mm. If Stephen lines up 50 coins from left end to the right end of the table. Determine the width of the table in meters.

  1. 1.25
  2. 2.35
  3. 2.26
  4. 2.13

hintHint:

We are given the diameter of single coin. It is 25mm. We are also told that, Stephen lines up 50 such coins on a table, from left to right end. It means the 50 coins covers the width of the table. We are asked to find the width of table in meters. First, we will find the length in the given unit and then convert it into meters.

The correct answer is: 1.25

The diameter of a coin is 25mm.
    Number of coins = 50.
They are covering the width of the table. We have to find the width.
We can find the width by multiplying the number of coins and the diameter. As 50 coins join to width of the table.
    Therefore, the width is
Width = Number of coins × diameter of single coin
    = 50 × 25mm
    = 1250mm
But, we asked to find the width in meters. To convert millimeters into meters, we must know relation between them.
    1 mm = 0.001 meters.
So, to convert 1250 mm into meters, we will multiply it by 0.001.
    1250 mm = 1250 × 0.001 meters
    = 1.25 meters.
Therefore, the width of the table in meters is 1.25.

For such questions, we should know about conversion of different units.
