Question
The total of 40 cows in every herd. 10 cow herds on the farm. The total cows are in the herd is?
- 400
- 500
- 600
- 700
Hint:
The values in multiplication get very large very quickly. When you 'multiply' or 'times' a number you add it to itself a number of times, for example 3 multiplied by 4 is the same as saying 3+3 +3 +3 = 12. Multiplication is therefore a quicker way of adding the same number many times, for example 3 x 4 = 12.
The correct answer is: 400
There are 40 cows in a herd of cows and likewise there are 10 herds of cows.
The total number of cows in the herd = (Total number of cows in a herd of cows) x (Total number of cow herds)
= 40 × 10
=400
Therefore, Total cows are in the herd is 400.
In short way,
One herd = 40 cows
10 herds cows = ?
40 × 10 = 400.
400 cows.
Multiplication is therefore a quicker way of adding the same number many times.
