There were 69 cookies in a box. A boy ate 33 cookies, and his sister ate 12. How many cookies did they eat, and how many are left?

  1. They ate 25 cookies, and 43 are left
  2. They ate 45 cookies, and 24 are left
  3. They ate 24 cookies, and 45 are left
  4. They ate 56 cookies, and 12 are left

Add the number of cookies they ate together and then subtract it from the total number of cookies

The correct answer is: They ate 45 cookies, and 24 are left


    Step 1:
    Total number of cookies =69
    No of cookies brother ate = 33
    No of cookies sister ate =12
    Number of cookies they ate together =33+12 =?
    33 + 12 = 45
    So, they ate 45 cookies.
    Step 2:
    number of cookies left =toal number of cookies -number of cookies eaten 
    69 – 55 = ?
    69 – 45 = 24
    So, 24 cookies are left
