Question

Use partial products to find the product of 32 x 64.

  1. 2,048
  2. 2,000
  3. 3,000
  4. 4,008

hintHint:

Here we have to find the partial product of 32 x 64. So here we are using the concept of partial product. We will multiply it parts and add them the all the parts.

The correct answer is: 2,048

Here we have to find the partial product of 32 x 64.
First, we write the first number 32 which written as 30 and 2. [ 30 because 3 it is at tens place , 2 is at ones place]
And so , the other number 64 which written down as 60 and 4 . [ 60 because 6 it at tens place , 4 at ones place]
So there are two term each having two number tens and ones.
Firstly multiply first number tens digit with second number both tens digit and one digit.
And , multiply second number of tens digit and ones digit with first number ‘s one digit partially.
Now , we multiply first ,
30 x 60 = 1800 [multiply tens digit of multiplier with tens digit of multiplicand]
30 x 4= 120 [multiply tens digit of multiplier with ones digit of multiplicand]
60 x 2 = 120 [multiply tens digit of multiplier with ones digit of multiplicand]
2 x 4 = 8 [ multiply ones digit of multiplier with one digit of multiplicand]
Now add all the partial product of find the solution.
    34 x 64 = 1800 + 120 + 120 + 8
    34 x 64 = 2048
The correct answer is 2,048 (option (d)) .
    Or,
    Use partial product model

The partial product method involves multiplying each digit of a number in turn with each digit of another where each digit maintains its place. We break the number into parts to multiply. We then multiply the parts separately and then add them together. Apply the same concept in similar questions.
