Question

What is the L.C.M. of two prime numbers?

  1. Their product
  2. Their sum
  3. Their difference
  4. None of the above

hintHint:

1. Prime number refers to a set of natural numbers that are only divisible by 1 and the number itself.
2. The lowest/ smallest multiple that is common among 2 or more numbers is known as Least Common Multiple. To find LCM of 2 or more numbers, we first factorize all the given numbers and then multiply each unique factor, the maximum number of times it occurs in either of the given numbers.

The correct answer is: Their product

    Solution-
We know that a prime number is only divisible by itself and 1.
∴ as given in the question, if we take any 2 prime numbers, the only common factor they will have is 1.
Also, we know that L.C.M of any 2 numbers can be found by finding the factors of those 2 numbers, which in the given case will be 1 and the given prime numbers themselves.
Hence, L.C.M of two prime numbers is the product of those numbers itself.
Final Answer- 'Option a' i.e. "Their product".
