Question

Which of the following is correct?

  1. Cube of a negative number is always positive.
  2. Cube of a negative number is always negative.
  3. Cube of a negative number may be positive or negative.
  4. All of the above

hintHint:

In this question, we have given 4 statements out of which we have to find which one is correct. Here we will use the concept of cube function as all the statements are related to cubes.
The result of multiplying an integer by itself three times is referred to as the cube number. A number that is the sum of three identical numbers is referred to as a cube number. A cube number is essentially a result of multiplying three identical numbers. The best illustration of a cube number in geometry is the volume of a cube.

The correct answer is: Cube of a negative number is always negative.

Here we have four statements given, we will take each statement and justify it by giving an example:
Cube of a negative number is always negative:
    E x a m p l e colon space
left parenthesis negative 3 right parenthesis cubed equals negative 27
left parenthesis negative 5 right parenthesis cubed equals negative 125

From this example we can see that cube of a negative number is always negative, so its true.
Cube of a negative number may be positive or negative:
    E x a m p l e colon space
left parenthesis negative 3 right parenthesis cubed equals negative 27
left parenthesis negative 5 right parenthesis cubed equals negative 125
From this example, we can see that cube of a negative number is always negative and not positive in any case, so it's false.
Cube of a negative number is always positive:
    E x a m p l e colon space
left parenthesis negative 3 right parenthesis cubed equals negative 27
left parenthesis negative 5 right parenthesis cubed equals negative 125
From this example we can see that cube of a negative number is never positive in any case, so it's false.
All of the above, which is false because two options are false.
So out of the three the correct option is: Cube of a negative number is always negative:

In this question, we were supposed to find which option is wrong and which was right. We used the concept of the cube and found that the correct option was "Cube of a negative number is always negative" by justifying with some examples.
