Question
Write the equation of the line in point slope form that has a slope of -12 and passes through the point (-4, -5).
- y - 5 = -12(x - 4)
- y + 4 = -12(x + 5)
- y + 5 = -12(x + 4)
- y - 12 = -4(x + 5)
Hint:
The point –slope form of linear equation is represented by y - y1 = m (x - x1), where m is the slope.
and it passes thorough the ( x1 , y1 ) point .
The correct answer is: y + 5 = -12(x + 4)
Given the Point (-4, -5);
and slope m= -12
Step1 : The point –slope form of linear equation is represented by y - y1 = m (x - x1),
where m is the slope. and ( x1 , y1 ) point
Step 2 : Substitute (-4, -5) in (x1, y1) and -12 in m place
y + 5 = -12(x + 4) , is the required answer .
Just substitute values in the standard form of point - slope form to get the equation.
