Question

A Sphere of diameter 6 cm is dropped into a right circular cylindrical vessel partly filled with water. The diameter of cylindrical vessel is 12 cm. If the sphere is completely submerged in water , by how much will the level of water rise In the cylindrical vessel ?

hintHint:

Volume of sphere equals 4 over 3 pi r cubed

The correct answer is: h = 1cm

    Explanation:
    • We have given a iron sphere with diameter 6cm dropped into cylindrical can of diameter 12cm
    • We have to find the rise in level of water when the sphere is completely immersed
    Step 1 of 1:
We have a iron sphere with diameter .
Now the volume of the sphere will be

    V equals 4 over 3 pi r cubed

equals 4 over 3 pi open parentheses 6 over 2 close parentheses cubed

    = 36π
Now we know that the volume of sphere will be equal to volume of water displaced by it.
So, Rise in volume of water will be 36π
    So,

    pi r squared h equals 36 pi

left parenthesis 6 right parenthesis squared h equals 36

    h = 1cm
So, The rise in level of water when the sphere is completely immersed will be h = 1cm .
