Sita has a square shaped garage with 228 square feet of floor space. She plans to build an addition that will increase the floor space by 50%. What will be the length of one side of new garage ?

Use the formula of area of square.

The correct answer is: 18.5 ft.

Complete step by step solution:
Area of original garage in square shape = 228 ft²
Let the side of original garage = x
We know that the formula for area of square = x²…(ii)
On equating both, we get x² = 228
Now take square roots on both the sides, we have x = $square root of 228$
$rightwards double arrow x space equals space 15.1 space f t$
Hence length of each side of original garage = x = 15ft
Given that floor space is increased by 50% along with the original garage

Let the side of new garage = y
