Question

Arun and Kiran work in a banquet hall. Arun earns a 20% commission on his food sales. Kiran earns a weekly salary of Rs 625 plus a 10% commission on his food sales . What amount of food sales will result in Arun and Kiran earning the same amount for the week ?

hintHint:

○ Form the equation according to given information..
○ Take variable values as x or any alphabet.
○ Solve the equation to get value of x.
○ Percentage x of y is given by
rightwards double arrow fraction numerator x space over denominator 100 end fraction space cross timesy

The correct answer is: ⇒ x = 6250

    ○ Given:
rightwards double arrowArun earns a 20% commission on sales.
rightwards double arrowKiran earns a weekly salary of Rs. 625 plus a 10% commission on sales.
    ○ Step 1:
    ○ Let the total food sale be Rs. x.
∴ Arun earning will be equal to,
rightwards double arrow20% commission on total food sale
    rightwards double arrow20% of x
rightwards double arrow20 over 100 space cross times x
    rightwards double arrow0.2x
Kiran earning will be equal to,
rightwards double arrowweekly salary + 10% commission on total food sale
    rightwards double arrow625 + 10% of x
    rightwards double arrow625 + 10 over 100 space cross times x
    rightwards double arrow625 + 0.01x
    ○ Step 2:
    ○ Equate the salary of Arun and Kiran.
    rightwards double arrow0.2x = 625 + 0.1x
    rightwards double arrow0.2x - 0.1x = 625
    rightwards double arrow0.1x = 625
rightwards double arrowx = fraction numerator 625 over denominator 0.1 end fraction
    rightwards double arrowx = 6250
    • Final Answer:
Hence, Rs. 6250 amount of food sales results in same earning of both at end of the week.
