Question
Arun and Kiran work in a banquet hall. Arun earns a 20% commission on his food sales. Kiran earns a weekly salary of Rs 625 plus a 10% commission on his food sales . What amount of food sales will result in Arun and Kiran earning the same amount for the week ?
Hint:
○ Form the equation according to given information..
○ Take variable values as x or any alphabet.
○ Solve the equation to get value of x.
○ Percentage x of y is given by
y
The correct answer is: ⇒ x = 6250
○ Given:
Arun earns a 20% commission on sales.
Kiran earns a weekly salary of Rs. 625 plus a 10% commission on sales.
○ Step 1:
○ Let the total food sale be Rs. x.
∴ Arun earning will be equal to,
20% commission on total food sale
20% of x
x
0.2x
Kiran earning will be equal to,
weekly salary + 10% commission on total food sale
625 + 10% of x
625 + x
625 + 0.01x
○ Step 2:
○ Equate the salary of Arun and Kiran.
0.2x = 625 + 0.1x
0.2x - 0.1x = 625
0.1x = 625
x =
x = 6250
- Final Answer:
Hence, Rs. 6250 amount of food sales results in same earning of both at end of the week.
