Find area of triangles
a. Whose height is 5cm and base is 10cm
b. Whose three sides are a = 5 cm, b = 5 cm and c = 8 cm

Hint:

In (a) simple use Area of triangle = 1 half cross times b cross times h and in (b) isosceles triangle is given.

The correct answer is: a) 25 cm2 , b) 12 cm2


    (a) It is given that base, b = 5 cm and height, h = 10 cm
    Area of triangle = 1 half cross times b cross times straight h equals 1 half cross times 5 cross times 10 = 25 cm2
    (b) It is given that a = 5 cm , b = 5 cm and c = 8 cm
    Now, using Heron’s formula
    Area of triangle = square root of s left parenthesis s minus a right parenthesis left parenthesis s minus b right parenthesis left parenthesis s minus c right parenthesis end root where s = fraction numerator a plus b plus c over denominator 2 end fraction
    s = fraction numerator 5 plus 5 plus 8 over denominator 2 end fraction = 9
    Area of triangle = square root of 9 left parenthesis 9 minus 5 right parenthesis left parenthesis 9 minus 5 right parenthesis left parenthesis 9 minus 8 right parenthesis end root
    square root of left parenthesis 9 right parenthesis left parenthesis 4 right parenthesis left parenthesis 4 right parenthesis left parenthesis 1 right parenthesis end root equals 12 cm squared
