Question

Kishore earns a weekly salary of Rs 925 and a 5% commission on his total sales. Neeraj earns a weekly salary of Rs. 1250 and a 3% commission on sales. What amount of sales will result in them earning the same amount for the week?

hintHint:

○ Form the equation according to given information..
○ Take variable values as x or any alphabet.
○ Solve the equation to get value of x.
○ Percentage x of y is given by
rightwards double arrow x over 100 space cross timesy

The correct answer is: ⇒ x = 16250

    ○ Given:
rightwards double arrowKishore earns a weekly salary of Rs 925 and a 5% commission on sales.
rightwards double arrowNeeraj earns a weekly salary of Rs. 1250 and a 3% commission on sales.
    ○ Step 1:
    ○ Let the total sale be Rs. x.
∴ Kishore earning will be equal to,
rightwards double arrowweekly salary + 5% commission on total sale
    rightwards double arrow925 + 5% of x
    rightwards double arrow925 +  5 over 100 space cross times x
    rightwards double arrow925 + 0.05x
Neeraj earning will be equal to,
rightwards double arrowweekly salary + 3% commission on total sale
    rightwards double arrow1250 + 3% of x
    rightwards double arrow1250 + 3 over 100 space cross times x
    rightwards double arrow1250 + 0.03x
    ○ Step 2:
    ○ Equate the salary of Kishore and Neeraj.
    rightwards double arrow925 + 0.05x = 1250 + 0.03x
    rightwards double arrow0.05x - 0.03x = 1250 - 925
    rightwards double arrow0.02x = 325
rightwards double arrowx = fraction numerator 325 over denominator 0.02 end fraction
    rightwards double arrowx = 16250
    • Final Answer:
Hence, Rs. 16250 amount of sales results in same earning of both at end of the week.
