Question

Solve: 3x + y = 8; 5x + y = 10 by using elimination method.

Hint:

find x by eliminating y and find y by substituting x in the equations  .

The correct answer is: x = 1 ; y = 5

    Ans :- x = 1 ; y = 5
    Explanation :-
    3 x plus y equals 8— eq 1
    5 x plus y equals 10 — eq 2
    Step 1 :- find x by eliminating y
Eliminating x by subtracting eq 2- eq1 then
left parenthesis 5 x plus y right parenthesis minus left parenthesis 3 x plus y right parenthesis equals 10 minus 8
    not stretchy rightwards double arrow 5 x minus 3 x plus y minus y equals 2
not stretchy rightwards double arrow 2 x equals 2
rightwards double arrow x equals space 1
Step 2 :- substitute value of x and find y
not stretchy rightwards double arrow 5 x plus y equals 10
not stretchy rightwards double arrow 5 left parenthesis 1 right parenthesis plus y equals 10
not stretchy rightwards double arrow y equals 10 minus 5
not stretchy rightwards double arrow y equals 5
therefore space y space equals space 5
therefore space x space equals space 1 and y = 5 is the solution of the given pair of equations.
