Question

What is the reflection of (3,4) in 4th quadrant.

  1. (-3,-4)
  2. (-3,4)
  3. (3,-4)
  4. (3,4)

Hint:

The reflection of a point in 1 s t quadrant in the 4 t h Quadrant is the reflection along the X-axis. The reflection of a point left parenthesis X comma Y right parenthesis along the X-axis is left parenthesis X comma negative Y right parenthesis.

The correct answer is: (3,-4)

In this question we have to find the reflection of point left parenthesis 3 comma 4 right parenthesis in the fourth quadrant.
    Step1: Locating the point.
Since, both the X and Y-Coordinate of the point are non negative. The point lies in the first quadrant.
Step2: Finding the reflection point in the 4 t h Quadrant.
The reflection of a point in 1 s t quadrant in the 4 t h Quadrant is the reflection along the X-axis. In the reflection along X-axis the X-Coordinate of the point remains the same and the Y-Coordinate becomes the additive inverse.
The reflection of a point left parenthesis X comma Y right parenthesis along the X-axis is left parenthesis X comma negative Y right parenthesis.
So, the reflection of the point left parenthesis 3 comma 4 right parenthesis in the 4 t h Quadrant will be left parenthesis 3 comma negative 4 right parenthesis.
