Question

A rectangle field is 34 m long and 15 m broad. Find the cost of
(a) ploughing the field at Rs 6 per square metre.
(b) fencing it at R s 9.50 per metre.

The correct answer is: The cost of ploughing and fencing the given rectangle field is R s. 3,060 & R s. 931, respectively.

    Hint:-
    i. Ploughing refers to the process of digging a land with a plough for loosening or turning the soil before sowing seed or planting.
ii. Fencing refers to blocking or covering the boundaries of a land with fences i.e. wooden blocks to prevent livestock from getting away.
iii. Area of a rectangle = length ×
    tep-by-step solution:-
For the given rectangle field, we are given that length = 34, breadth = 15
    (a) We need to find the cost of ploughing the field at Rs. 6 per sq mt.
Since ploughing is done on the whole surface of the land, we need to calculate the area of the field to find the cost of ploughing it.
∴ Area of the given field = length × breadth
    ∴ Area of the given field = 34 × 15
    ∴ Area of the given field = 510 m2 ............................................................................... (Equation i)
    ∴ Cost of ploughing the whole field (@ Rs. 6 per sq mt) = 510 m2 * Rs. 6/ m2 .................. (From Equation i)
∴ Cost of ploughing the whole field (@ Rs. 6 per sq mt) = Rs. 3,060
    (b) We need to find the cost of fencing the field at Rs. 9.5 per mt.
Since fences are put on the boundaries of the field, we need to calculate the perimeter of the field to find the cost of fencing it
∴ Perimeter of the given field = 2 (length + breadth)
    ∴ Perimeter of the given field = 2 (34 + 15)
    ∴ Perimeter of the given field = 2 × 49
    ∴ Perimeter of the given field = 98 m. ........................................................................ (Equation ii)
    ∴ cost of fencing the whole field (@ R s. 9.5 per m t) = 98 m ×R s. 9.5/ mt ........................ (From Equation ii)
    ∴ cost of fencing the whole field (@ R s. 9.5 per m t) = R s. 931
    breadth
iv. Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 (length + breadth)
    cost  of fencing the whole field (@ R s. 9.5 per m t) = 98 m × Rs. 9.5/ mt ........................ (From Equation ii)
    ∴ cost of fencing the whole field (@ R s. 9.5 per m t) = R s. 931
    Final Answer:-
∴ The cost of ploughing and fencing the given rectangle field is R s. 3,060 & R s. 931, respectively.
