Question

Anu’s Mother drives to the gas station and fills up her tank. Then she drives to the market. Sketch the graph that shows the relationship between the amount of fuel in the gas tank of her car and time

hintHint:

Figure out the slope of the graph with respect to each situation given in the question.

The correct answer is: Slope is negative

SOL – Let amount of fuel in the car = y
    Time taken = x
Firstly, there was some fuel present in the car initially.
    rightwards double arrowWhen x = 0 , y = a  ( let )
While Anu’s Mother drives to the gas station, fuel gets used up i.e., as time, x is increasing, amount of fuel, y is decreasing
rightwards double arrow Slope is negative.
Since the tank gets filled up at gas station, there is sudden increase in the amount of the fuel.
rightwards double arrow Slope is positive and line is very steep.
Further, she drives to the market i.e., fuel is decreasing again as time is increasing.
rightwards double arrow Slope is negative.
