Question

Derek wants to order some roses online. For what number of roses is it less expensive to order from florist A ? From Florist B ?

hintHint:

Find the equation corresponding to each Florist. Once you get it equate them together to get the number of roses.
We are asked to find for what number of roses is it less expensive to order from florist A or From Florist B ?

The correct answer is: x=33.33

    Step 1 of 2:
    Let the total charge be y and the number of rose be x
    Florist A charges
    y=40+4.75x   --------------------------------------1
    Florist B charges
    y=25+5.2x  ------------------------------------------2
    Step 2 of 2:
    To solve for the number of roses we need to equate 1 and 2:

    table attributes columnalign right left right left right left right left right left right left columnspacing 0em 2em 0em 2em 0em 2em 0em 2em 0em 2em 0em end attributes row cell 40 plus 4.75 x equals 25 plus 5.2 x end cell row cell 40 minus 25 equals 5.2 x minus 4.75 x end cell row cell 15 equals 0.45 x end cell row cell x equals fraction numerator 15 over denominator 0.45 end fraction end cell row cell x equals 33.33 end cell end table
    The number of roses that will be less expensive to order from A is 33.33.

    When two equations have the same LHS or RHS, we equate them to solve the system.

    Explain whether this graph represents a function ?

    In a function, every value of x must have one value of y. When we draw a vertical, it cuts x axis at one point, we take that point to be x. If the vertical line cuts the graph at two points, then it gives two values of y for one value of x. This does not represent a function
