Question
How can you use a function to represent a linear relationship?
Hint:
Linear relationship is represented though a straight line.
The correct answer is: by obtaining a straight line
Linear function is a mathematical equation used to express a straight – line relationship between two variables.
This straight – line relationship is called linear relationship.
Firstly, put values of x in the given function and find y i.e. find at least 3 ordered pairs (x , y).
Now, locate the points on the graph and join them.
Though 2 points are sufficient to obtain a straight line, but its better to locate third point as well for justification or confirmation that it is a straight line.
Since we have obtained a straight line, it implies that the two variables have a linear relationship.
