Julie and Jeanette enjoy finishing their 6 km morning run together. Julie runs at an average speed of 10 km/h and Jeanette runs at an average speed of 3 m/s. If Julie leaves at 8 a.m., at what time should Jeanette leave if they are to finish their run at the same time?

    Step 1 of 2:
    The distance travelled by both Julie and Jeanette is 6 km.
    Average speed of Julie = 10 km/h
    Time taken by Julie to cover 6 km =fraction numerator text  Distance  end text over denominator text  Time  end text end fraction = 6 over 10 = 3 over 5 hours = 36 min
    So, if Julie leaves at 8 a.m., she will finish her run at 8:36 am
    Step 2 of 2:
    Now, Average speed of Jeanette = 3 m/s = 3 cross times 18 over 5 km/h = 54 over 5 km/h
    Extra time taken by Julie as compared to Jeanette to cover the distance = 36 - 33.3 = 2.7 min
    So, Jeanette will leave 2.7 min late as compared to Julie to finish their run at the same time.
