Question

A linear function includes the ordered pairs (0, 3), (3, 9), and (9, n). What is the value of n?

In this question ,we have given linear function and we have to find the value of n. Firstly, the given line is linear function then the slope of line is same for any two given points. Equal both points slope and find n by cross multiplication.

The correct answer is: 21


    Here , we have to find value of n.
    Firstly, we have, three points on a linear function
    (0,3) , (3, 9) and (9, n) .
    So to find k , the slope between two points (3,4) and (5,5) is:
    m = (y2 – y1) / (x2 – x1)
    m = (9 –3) / (3 – 0) =   6 / 3 =2
    Now, we have slope between two points (0, 3) and (9, n) is:
    m= (n – 3 )  / (9 – 0)
    m= (n – 3) / 9
    we know that the slope of two point in same line is same so , we have:
    2 = (n – 3) / 9
    Cross multiplication,
    2 x 9 = (n – 3)
    18 = n – 3
    Add both side by 3,
    18 + 3 = n – 3 + 3
    21 = n
    Therefore , the value of n is 21.
    The correct answer is 21(option (c)).
    Or
    we know that the slope of two point in same line is same so,
    fraction numerator left parenthesis 9 minus 3 right parenthesis over denominator left parenthesis 3 minus 0 right parenthesis end fraction =fraction numerator left parenthesis n blank – 9 right parenthesis over denominator left parenthesis 9 minus 3 right parenthesis end fraction
    fraction numerator 6 over denominator 3 end fraction=fraction numerator left parenthesis n minus 9 right parenthesis over denominator 6 end fraction
    fraction numerator 2 over denominator 1 end fraction =fraction numerator left parenthesis n minus 9 right parenthesis over denominator 6 end fraction
    n9=12
    n=21

    In this question, we have to find the value of n in linear function, to find it we know the slope of two point in same line is same so, just find the slope between two different points and then find the compare both them equally and find the value of n.
