Question
What is the preimage of point P’(2, 2). Use the translation.
- P(-2, 0)
- P(-8, 2)
- P(4, -2)
- P(0, 4)
The correct answer is: P(0, 4)
We were given a point and asked to find the preimage of the point
Given translation is
Let the preimage of P’(2, 2) be P(x, y)
Equating the x coordinates of image, we get
x +2 = 2
x = 2- 2 = 0
Equating the y coordinates of image, we get
y – 2 = 2
y = 2+2 = 4
So, P (x, y) = (0, 4)
From comparing the given point with translation we obtained the original point that is pre image (0,4)
