Question

Venus flytrap is sensitive to heat

  1. True
  2. False

Hint:

It has sensitive trigger hairs.

The correct answer is 'False'.

    The statement is false.
    • They trap prey, mainly insects and arachnids, in trapping structures formed by the terminal part of each plant leaf, triggered by tiny hairs called 'trigger hairs' or 'sensitive hairs' on the inside of the leaf.
    • When an insect or spider crawling along the leaf touches the hair, the trap prepares to close and only closes on further contact within about 20 seconds of the initial attack.
    • A trigger can occur on contact for tenths of a second.
    • The plant only begins digesting after five more rounds of stimulation to ensure that it catches live insects worth eating.

The following picture shows _____________ in plants.

    The correct option is b)geotropism.

    • Gravitropism or geotropism is the coordinated process by which plants undergo differential growth in response to the gravity that pulls them.
    • Roots show positive gravitropism and stems negative gravitropism. That is, roots grow in the direction of gravity (i.e. down) and stems grow in the opposite direction (i.e. up).
    • This behavior is easily demonstrated in potted plants.  When laid on its side, the growing part of the stem begins to exhibit negative gravitropism and grows upward.

The following picture shows _____________ in plants.

    The correct option is c)Phototropism.

    • Phototropism is the growth of organisms in response to light stimuli. Phototropism is most commonly found in plants, but can also occur in other organisms such as fungi
    • . Plant cells furthest from light contain hormones called auxins that react when phototropism occurs. This causes plants to have elongated cells on the side furthest from light.
    • Phototropism is one of many plant tropisms, or movements in response to external stimuli.
    • Growing towards the light source is called positive phototropism and growing away from the light is called negative phototropism.
