Question

Solve each equation . is the equation an identity ? Explain .
16(4-3m) = 96 (-0.5m+1)

hintHint:

An equation is said to be an identity if an only if, for all values of x (or any other variable in the equation), the equation will be true. i.e. for all values of x (or any other variable in the equation), LHS = RHS.

The correct answer is: The given equation is not an identity.

    Step-by-step solution:-
    LHS = 16 (4 - 3m)
                                                                                           ∴ LHS = (16 × 4) - (16 × 3m) .............................. [Distributive property- a (m + n) = am + an]
                                                                                                    ∴ LHS = 64 - 48m ............................................... (Equation i)
    RHS = 96 (-0.5m + 1)
                                                                                         ∴ RHS = (96 × -0.5m) + (96 × 1) …..................... [Distributive property- a (m + n) = am + an]
                                                                                                   ∴ RHS = -48m + 96
                                                                                                     ∴ RHS = 96 - 48m .............................................. (Equation ii)
    From Equation i & ii, we get-
    LHS ≠ RHS
    Hence, the given equation is not an identity.
    Final Answer:-
    ∴ The given equation is not an identity.
