Question

Solve System of equations using Substitution :
X + Y = - 4
Y = - X + 5

hintHint:

find x by substituting y (in terms of x) in the equation and find y by substituting the value of  x in the equations  .If we get an true statement we say they have infinite solutions .If we get the false statement we say they have no solution.

The correct answer is: They have no solution for the given system of equations

    Ans :-no solution.
    Explanation :-
    y = - x + 5             — eq 1
    x + y = - 4              —- eq 2
    Step 1 :- find x by substituting y = - x + 5 in eq 2.
    x + (- x + 5) = - 4 ⇒ x - x + 5 = -4
    5 = -4
    Here we get 5 = -4 which is always false  i.e solutions do not exist
    They  are parallel with each other and have no solutions
    ∴ They have no solution for the given system of equations.
