Question
Solve the following using the substitution method and find the value of x and y:
4x – 4y = 32
4x – 2y = 14
- 5, 3
- -5, -3
- -1, -9
- 1, 2
Hint:
The linear equation in two variable is an equation with two variable and degree one.
The correct answer is: -1, -9
Step 1 of 1:
We have given two linear equation
4x – 4y = 32....(i)
4x-2y=14.....(ii)
Rewrite first equation,
4(x – y) = 32
x – y = 8
y = x – 8
Substitute the value of y in 2nd equation.
4x – 2(x - 8) = 14
4x – 2x + 16 = 14
2x + 16 = 14
2x = -2
x = -1
Now put the value of x and find the value of x.
-1 – y = 8
y = -9
In the substitution method, we first write one variable in the form of another variable.
