Question
Solve the following using the substitution method and find the value of x and y:
-x + 2y = 9
-5x – 4y = -11
- -1, 4
- -1, -2
- 1, 2
- 3, 4
Hint:
The linear equation in two variable is an equation with two variable and degree one.
The correct answer is: -1, 4
Step 1 of 1:
We have two linear equation
-x + 2y = 9…………………………. 1
-5x – 4y = -11………………….. 2
From 1
-x + 2y = 9
-x = 9 -2y
x = 2y – 9……………………… 3
Substituting x value in 2nd equation,
-5(2y – 9) – 4y = -11
-10y + 45 – 4y = -11
-14y + 45 = -11
-14y = -11 - 45
-14y = -56
y = 4
Substituting y in 3rd equation,
x = 2(4) – 9
=8 - 9
x = -1
In the substitution method, we first write one variable in the form of another variable.
