Question

The graph shows the relationship between the number of pages printed by a printer and the warm up time before each printing. What function in the form Y = mx + b represents this relationship?

hintHint:

Use two – point form

The correct answer is: y = (0.1)x + 1

    No of pages printed = x
    Time taken = y
    In the graph given, when x1 = 0 , y1 = 1
    And x2 = 10 , y2 = 2
    Using two – point form, equation of the line is
    (y – y1) = m (x – x1)  where  m = fraction numerator y subscript 2 minus y subscript 1 over denominator x subscript 2 minus x subscript 1 end fraction

    rightwards double arrow m =  fraction numerator 2 minus 1 over denominator 10 minus 0 end fraction

         = 1 over 10 =  0.1
    Now,  equation of the line is (y – y1) = m (x – x1)
    (y – 1) = 0.1 (x – 0)
    y – 1 = 0.1x
    y = (0.1)x + 1
    A linear function that represents the relationship between the number of pages printed by a printer and the warm up time before each printing is y = (0.1)x + 1.
