The College of New Jersey is a public higher education system in the Ewing Township of New Jersey. During its inception, the institution was known as the New Jersey State Normal School. TCNJ can be called the first teaching college in New Jersey state. 

In the US, it is the fifth regular school or teaching college. The college was shifted from Trenton to its present location in the 1930s. The higher education institution was given its current name in 1996, before which it was called Trenton State College.

The College of New Jersey was instituted in the year 1855. The university has a suburban setting with a campus of 289 acres built in the  architectural style of Georgian colonial revival. It follows a semester-based academic calendar with seven schools.
