Lehigh University is a renowned private residential university in Pennsylvania, United States. Lehigh University – An Overview

Lehigh University was founded in 1865 by Asa Packer. To establish this private research university, founder Asa Packer, a businessman by occupation, donated $500,000. This university was established with the aim of improving people intellectually and morally.


There are three campuses of Lehigh University. The university, located on South Mountain, Bethlehem, has three contiguous campus areas. The Asa Packer Campus has the most academic and residential buildings of this university. The Asa Packer Campus is spread over 360 acres. Another campus, Murray H. Goodman Campus, is spread over 500 acres, and the Murray H. Goodman Stadium & other athletic fields are located here. Murray H. Goodman campus also houses the Ulrich Sports Complex, the Lewis Indoor Tennis Facility, the Cundey Varsity House, the Stabler Athletic, and the Philip Rauch Field House as well as a Convocation Center. The Mountain campus has a research site as well.

Lehigh Admissions for International Students

The admission eligibility criteria and language requirements for international students seeking admission to Lehigh University are given below-

Undergraduate courses

  1. Students must have a high school or secondary school certificate from a recognized university
  2. SAT or ACT score requirement depends on the particular course

Graduate courses

  1. Students must possess a bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject or field of study from a recognized university or institution.
  2. The minimum GPA required is 2.75 out of 4
  3. The cut-off of the GRE or GMAT score varies according to the course.

English Proficiency

Students seeking Lehigh University admission must prove their proficiency in English if they are from non-English speaking countries. The scores of the following English tests are considered for admission by Lehigh University.

Academic Life at Lehigh University

Students can apply for the undergraduate course at any of the Lehigh Colleges. The students can also apply for an intercollegiate interdisciplinary program. No matter what course is selected by the students in Lehigh and other colleges, they get ample opportunities to explore, which makes their course of study more challenging. Lehigh University has a student retention rate of 90.5%. It has about 548 full-time faculty members. The average class size is 28. With a student-faculty ratio of 9:1, Lehigh University always tries to keep students under continuous mentorship and guidance from faculty members.

Lehigh Scholarships

Lehigh University offers financial aid or scholarships to needy students. This allows these students to complete their coursework without being financially hampered. The following are some of the universities that give scholarships:

  1. Dean’s Scholarship- USD 12,000 given to students every year who show leadership and academic excellence.
  2. Snyder Family Marching Scholarship- USD 1500 is given to incoming students with exceptional musical talent.
  3. Cutler-Sametz Choral Arts Scholarship- USD 5000 is given to students who have a 2.8 GPA in Choral Arts.
  4. Alice P. Gast STEM Scholarships- USD 12,000 if given to the students for academics and research activities.  It is given to female students pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
  5. National Merit Scholarship- USD 1000 or 2000is given to students who are the finalists of the National Merit Test.

Lehigh University-Application and Tuition fees

Students have to pay an application fee of USD 75 for graduate and USD 70 for undergraduate courses, which is non-refundable. 

Lehigh University tuition fees for various graduate and undergraduate courses are given below. (As per 2021-2022)

  • For undergraduate courses, the annual tuition fee is approximately USD 60,000.
  • For graduate courses, the annual tuition fee is approximately USD 52,000/
  • The annual tuition fee for the accelerated MBA course is approximately USD 67,000.

The cost will go up when books, health insurance, living expenses, and miscellaneous expenses are added.
