University of Connecticut – Admissions, Rankings and Acceptance Rates

Sep 19, 2022

In this article, we’ll learn about the UConn Acceptance rate and Admission Requirements. Let’s begin.

Located in the sleepy town of Storrs, Connecticut, the University of Connecticut is a public research institute. UConn was previously known as the Storrs Agricultural School, a perfect name for an institution in an area surrounded by farmland.

Storrs is around 90 minutes drive from Boston, a 60-minute drive from Providence, and a 30-minute drive from Hartford. The institute has over 450 organisations and clubs where students can participate. Furthermore, UConn also has over 30 sororities and fraternities.

Students can also enjoy watching a movie at the on-campus movie theatre and skating around for free at the ice rink on the institute’s premises. The sports team, UConn Huskies, have competed in the NCAA D-I American Athletic Conference. Here, UConn’s basketball team is the most-ferocious competitor of all time.

The first-year students don’t need to reside on-campus, even when 70% of the undergraduates do so. Every year, right before the final examinations, all the students come together to celebrate the Spring Weekend. This is a multi-day and fun-filled celebration that dates back to the 1940s as the Campus Community Carnival.

Here is a small profile of the institute in the table formation:

UConn SAT Requirements

SAT scores can assess a student’s mathematics, writing, and reading abilities. All of these are crucial when it comes to academic success in universities. The required SAT score for UConn is 1210 within the 25th percentile and 1420 within the 75th percentile.

In other words, an SAT score of 1210 is measured as below average, and an SAT score of 1420 is viewed as above average. So, if you wish to fulfil the SAT requirements for UConn, you need to have an SAT score of 1210, and it’s not a complete requirement.

The table below breaks down the UConn SAT score:

Along with the GPA and SAT scores, all the students need to stay well-updated about the ACT requirements. UConn’s ACT score in the 25th percentile is 26, and in the 75th percentile, the score is 31. In other words, an ACT score of 26 means below average, and a score of 31 is above average. An ACT score of 26 or above is highly preferred.

University of Connecticut Admissions: Things to Consider!

Students applying at UConn for their first year should be enrolled on an approved high school program. All graduates must complete around 16 credits, out of which 15 of them should be of college preparation. Additionally, all the 1st year candidates should study the following subjects:

  • 4 years of English Language Study
  • Students applying for the “School of Engineering” should complete Chemistry and Physics in high school
  • 2-year course in one foreign language [3 years is strongly suggested]
  • 2-year course in Social Studies along with 1 year in US History
  • 3 years of Mathematics [Geometry, Algebra I and II, etc.]
  • 2 years of Laboratory Sciences
  • Students who apply for the “School of Nursing” must complete Chemistry in high school
  • 3 years of Electives.

The University of Connecticut acceptance rate is 56%, and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will recalculate all the 1st-year candidates. The recalculation will be conducted according to the applicant’s grade point averages, as it’s a part of the admission assessment method.

Additionally, Honors, IB, and AP programmes in major subjects are considered after calculating the grade point average of a student. This helps the admission committee to compare all the student applications on an exact basis.

The University of Connecticut also needs proven foreign language students of 2 years from all those candidates whose 1st language is English. The institute also accepts ASL or American Sign Language for all those candidates who are not native English speakers.

Candidates who did not complete the 2-year foreign language course in high school will still be considered for admission to the institute. Here are the documents students have to provide to proceed with admission:
