How to Understand Your Scores?

The ACT score range is 1-36, and the test includes four sections, namely English, math, Reading and Science, with each of them having a score in this range. Also, your total score equals the average of the four subject area tests and thus belongs in this range. The overall score of the applicant is the main factor universities typically consider in the admission process.

The composite score could also be calculated from your scores. For instance, if you had scores of 28 in English, 32 in Math, 28 in Reading, and 30 in Science, the composite score would be calculated as the average of these scores, which is 29.5. However, ACT rounds this number to the nearest whole number. If the decimal part is 0.5 or higher, the score is rounded up; if it’s less than 0.5, the score is rounded down.

In this case, since 0.5 rounds up to 30, the composite score would be 30 due to rounding. This rounding method helps maintain consistency and fairness in the scoring process.

Writing Test Scores

If you choose the added Writing option for the ACT Plus, you will have an additional writing score of 2 to 12. This score assesses your ability to develop and defend a point of view, stick to the topic, develop a position with sound reasoning, clearly outline your ideas, and use language effectively.

Downloading Your Score Report on Your Smartphone

Follow the easy process given below to download your score report using your smartphone:

  1. Register for a My ACT Account

In order to obtain your ACT results, you first need to create a My ACT account. Through this account, you can check your ACT scores and registration in the same place. It is easy because one needs to register with My ACT on the official ACT website. Double-check the data you are collecting during registration in order to rule out any differences at a later stage.

  1. Await Score Release

You have already completed your ACT exam, so you need patience when you wait for your scores to be processed and delivered. Generally, scores for the multiple-choice test are made available approximately two weeks after the exam date. However, in some cases, it may take as long as eight weeks to release them. Writing scores often are released approximately two weeks after multiple-choice scores come out. Unlike the multiple-choice sections, which are officially reported right after you take the writing section, the complete scores, including the writing component, will only be officially reported once all scores are available.

  1. Access Your Scores on My ACT

When your score results are released, you must log in to your My ACT account to see them. Go to the scores section of your account to get the test scores results opened with detailed reports of your performance in each test section. The scores will cover all aspects of education, like English, Math, Reading, and Science, and help find your strengths and weaknesses.

  1. Download the Score Report

In your My ACT account, you should be able to choose to download your score report. You will be shown a pop-up window with the same feature. Select it and press the download button. Depending on your OS, your smartphone may ask you to choose a location to save the file. Choose to download your file in an easily reachable place, such as the folder where you save your files.

  1. Review Your Scores

Once the download finishes, open the score report, and you can read the ACT scores in detail. Remember to consider your scores for each section, which also includes the composite score, which is the average of your scores across the four subject areas. Self-assessment follows the interpretation of your scores; therefore, you need to have a clear understanding of your scores to be able to relate and pinpoint areas in which you perform well or those that may be challenging.

  1. Keep Your Scores Secure

Upon downloading your score report for the ACT, remember to keep it safe and secure. A suggestion could be to store the file in a password-protected folder or a cloud storage service in order to prevent unauthorized access. Besides, refrain from posting your grades indiscriminately, as scores carry sensitive information that relates to your academic record.
