A Guide To Parents For Their Child’s Naplan Exam

Nov 11, 2022

NAPLAN results allow parents/caregivers and educators to observe how children’s reading and numeracy grow over time – independently, while members of the school community, and in comparison to national standards.

The examinations aid in monitoring and evaluating schools and educational systems’ performance in these key capacities. They also give information to schools, states, and territories regarding how education techniques are working, areas that need to be emphasized for development, and schools that need help teaching and learning reading and numeracy.

NAPLAN

The assessment of language skills for NAPLAN is conducted each year. All children in grades 3, 5, 7, and 9 must-have essential reading and mathematics skills for success in school and beyond. NAPLAN is an independent national measure that determines the quality of education for a given student. The most crucial part of NAPLAN preparation is teaching and studying the curriculum. NAPLAN is part of our school curriculum. Visit NAPLAN’s Public Demo site in person.

Requisite for The NAPLAN Test

  1. Schools will be in charge of providing that all pupils have the necessary headphones or earbuds to complete NAPLAN Online.
  2. From the start of Term 1, the Authority will make online staff training materials available.
  3. NAPLAN online tests are administered on the platform, and students access the exams using a Locked Down Browser (LDB), which must be installed on all testing devices.
  4. If a student has a disability, a liability adjustment is established so that he or she can access and participate in school on the same basis as other students.

Online Evaluation

NAPLAN is now administered online. More information, tools, FAQs, and parent information are available on the NAPLAN website. You may also learn about NAPLAN online practice tests, NAPLAN online sample tests, and NAPLAN online practice assessment research and development.

The My School website contains information on all Australian schools, including school-level NAPLAN data that is updated annually. My School promotes national openness and accountability in Australia’s school education system by publishing nationally standardized school-level statistics. It is intended to supplement existing reporting metrics aimed at holding schools and school systems responsible for parents/caregivers and the larger community.

Freedom of Information Act 1982

The majority of the NAPLAN testing published through ACARA websites is currently released under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. The FOI Act provides access to documents, and it does not give attribution to documents released in the manner described in the document. This test can be submitted electronically or publicly but does NOT have a public option.

The examinations aid in monitoring and evaluating schools and educational systems’ performance in these key capacities. They also give information to schools, states, and territories on how education techniques are working, areas that need to be prioritized for improvement, and schools that require help in the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy. The findings can help instructors by giving extra data to support their professional judgment about their pupils’ reading and numeracy attainment and growth.

National Online Assessment Principles

All of Australia’s education ministers agreed on guiding principles for national online assessment in July 2013. The regulations offer ACARA strategic guidance for the online delivery of NAPLAN.

The concepts necessitate online assessment to

  • Help to improve teaching and learning
  • Supply improved national, and assessment information widens assessment curriculum coverage

NAPLAN consists of tests in four categories:

  •  reading
  • writing
  • linguistic conventions (spelling, grammar, and punctuation)
  • Numeracy.

Writing

Imaginative, informative, and persuasive writing are the three primary text genres taught. Regardless of whether your kid is a Year 3 student taking the exam on paper or a Year 5, 7, or 9 student taking the test online, all students receive the same text type or genre of writing work in the writing test.

Reading

Students gain language and literacy abilities in the English learning area of each state and territory curriculum and then apply these skills across a wide range of learning areas. The NAPLAN reading examinations developed following the Australian Curriculum: English assess literacy competency across the English learning domain.

These exams concentrate on reading written English. Reading also requires knowledge and interpretation of linguistic standards in context, which are leaned on in many reading problems.

Evaluating the writing job

The marking of written tests is the responsibility of test administration bodies in each state and territory. All markers in Australia use the same marking rubric, are trained in the same manner, and are subject to the same quality assurance methods.

Conventions of language

Language exam protocols evaluate spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Literacy knowledge and abilities are required for successful communication in all areas of study. However, language tools, including language standards, are deliberately designed in the English learning field. As a result, the information examined in language test conventions is matched with the Australian Curriculum English.

How to Assist Your Child in Preparing for the NAPLAN Exam

Making a Study Schedule

Making a study calendar can ensure that your child has adequate time to prepare for the NAPLAN examination. It will relieve some of their anxiety and worry. Creating a study plan works best when you know when your tests are.

Making a Study Schedule

Making a study calendar can ensure that your child has adequate time to prepare for the NAPLAN examination. It will relieve some of their anxiety and worry. Creating a study plan works best when you know when your tests are.

No need to worry.

Because your kid may be anxious, there is a chance for them to develop the necessary skills and resilience to assist them in dealing with stress difficulties.

Conclusion

The NAPLAN test does not measure the student’s understanding of the curriculum. It is more concerned about their general ability to do Math or read and write. As a result, it provides a picture of what general abilities a kid has learned in school. However, the test is designed with the curriculum and breadth of pupils of various educational levels.
