Adjectives and adverbs can be used to make comparisons. The comparative form is used to compare two people, ideas, or things. The superlative form with the word “the” is used to compare three or more adverbs or adjectives. 

Some Common Comparisons Include:

Comparative adjectives/adverbs compare one person or thing with another and enable us to say whether a person or thing has more or less of a particular quality: 

  1. John is taller than his sister. 
  2. I’m more interested in motorsports than normal sports. 
  3. Big displacement cars that use a lot of petrol are less popular now than twenty years ago. 

Superlative adjectives/adverbs describe one person or thing as having more of a quality than all other people or things in a group: 

  1. The ‘Gemara’ by the Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegg is the fastest production four-seater car. 
  2. What is the least expensive way of traveling in Italy?
