Question

If x & y are real numbers and y over x equals x then ' y ' cannot take the value(s) :

  1. -1
  2. 0
  3. 1
  4. 2

The correct answer is: -1

    For that find y and where its value lies.
    Complete step by step solution:
    Here, we have to find the ‘y’ cannot take which value.
    Firstly, x and y are real numbers,
    y over x = x
    so,
    y = x2
    x2 never be negative for any real value,
    then we can say that y is always non-negative.
    y ≥ 0,
    from options, -1 is negative, then y cannot take this value.
    Therefore, the correct answer is -1.
    Here we have, x and y are real number and y over x = x, we have to find that what ‘y’ cannot take the value. For that find y and where its value lies.

    In this question, we have to which value y cannot give. Here ‘y’ is always non-negative, so it never given the negative value.
